Production Process
We were set the task of creating a platformer game using Stencyl. We decided on making our game themed around zombies and after throwing around a few ideas we settled on Zombie Weebs being the main focus of the game. As we were creating a platformer the main mechanics of the game were running and jumping. These mechanics had definite influence on the level design and the way the enemies move and interact with the player.

The assets for the game are all pixel art and were made in Piskelapp (an online service for creating and animating pixel art) with the exception of the background silhouettes witch I made in Photoshop. To begin with we made the player character. I did a few sketches and then a clean digital copy of Justin and when I was happy with the design I created a sprite in Piskelapp. To animate him moving I created a new frame and duplicated the first onto it. Then I selected a few pixels and moved them one or two pixels over, I did this with the arms and the legs. Then I repeat the process one frame at a time until i have 9 unique frames that make it appear that Justin is running.

After I finished with Justin I made the Tile Sets. The Tile Sets are all just brick that all look very similar so I made the top layers of the bricks slightly different to clearly show where the player can and can't jump and land. These were made in Piskelapp on a 16x16 canvas.

The items that are picked up at the end of the levels are made in Piskelapp too again on 16x16 canvas. I created these without reference, just off the top of my head, and then gave them a subtle animation. They gently bob up and down, this was done by using 3 or 4 frames each and just moving them up or down a pixel each frame.
